Caring for your Sauna

Our Cedar Barrel Saunas will weather the ages with a little bit of preventative care. Click the text below for more information on how to care for your Barrel Sauna.

Cedar Exterior

Cedar Exterior

Our saunas are made of natural western red cedar which is unmatched in aroma and resistance to the elements. While the cedar will retain its integrity over many years, the natural color of the cedar will fade over time. To keep your sauna looking new and to avoid greying from exposure to sun and rain, we recommend using OSMO 410 UV Protection Oil on the exterior of the sauna once per year. This will prevent the sauna from greying over time. Be sure to seal all exposed cedar (including the end grains of the stave), following the manufacturer’s directions.

Cedar Interior

Cedar Interior

Generally, the interior of the sauna requires less maintenance than the exterior, however some water marks may develop over time. Generally, it is recommended to wipe down the surfaces after use. If you do wish to seal the interior of the sauna to prevent water staining, a Clear Sauna Wood Wax may be applied

Steel Bands

Steel Bands

Throughout the seasons, the natural cedar expands and contracts. Over time, the bands that secure the staves may become slightly loose. Simply tighten the band with two adjustable wrenches.
